Twisting and Backbends Part 3

For this class you will need wall space, blocks and a blanket.

We start out laying down to warm up and then move to the wall for more warm ups. We practice Upward dog and shoulder work at the wall to prepare doing more backbends our our mats. We work into revolved triangle pose and then end in supported bridge pose. This class was filmed live July 16, 2022.

Twisting and Backbends Part 2

For this class you will need blocks, a strap, a blanket and some wall space.

We start out laying down for our warm up including leg stretches with the strap. From there we work on cat cows and variations for the spine. Grab a chair and so these at the wall if you don't kneel. We then use the wall for shoulder work and stretching the front thighs. Upper back strength is highlighted with belly down work and then we flow through poses to put it all together including revolved triangle pose. This class was filmed live July 12, 2022.

Twisting and Backbends Part 1

For this class you need blocks, a blanket, and wall space.

We start with reclining warm ups, cat cow variations for spinal work and then move to the wall for extra shoulder warm ups. We take a few rounds of thigh stretches with the option of kneeling. We then move through a flow to put it all together. This class was filmed live July 11, 2022.

A Twisting Practice

For this class you will need wall space, blocks and a bolster.

We start off with legs up the wall and then hip stretches with the support of the wall. From there we progress to standing and taking more warm ups at the wall. The sturdy support of the wall can help us to feel grounded and more open as we move. From there we work into twists and end with Warrior 3, Half Moon and Revolved Half Moon poses. Twisting + Wall Shoulder Work

For this class you will need a blanket, blocks, and wall space.

We start out laying down for the warm up. From there we work the spine in cat cows and then try a dynamic take on pigeon pose to get deeper into the hips. From there we warm up the shoulders at the all. Then we try out some challenging flows with standing poses. This class was filmed live April 16, 2022.

Twisting with Wall Support

For this class you will need some space at the wall. It will also be helpful to have two yoga blocks and a bolster.

We start off laying down to warm up. From there we progress to warm ups standing for the shoulders and then move to the wall to continue to work on shoulder mobility and then twisting with the aid of breathing. We slow down in pigeon pose for deeper hip stretching and then take a chest opener over the bolster. From there we work on active back bending and then finish with a standing pose flow. Twisting into Spring

For this class you will need blocks and a blanket.

We start out with an active warm up laying down. Practice rolling from your back to your front in these open chain supta padangustasana poses. From there we continue our warm up in the shoulders while standing. Try out swimmer hovers from different positions and see how gravity can change they way moves feel. We move into deeper twists practcing revolved triangle and then work into upward dog and bow pose. This class was filmed live March 21, 2022.

Twisting into Backbends

For this class you will need blocks and a blanket and a strap. We start off slow, warming up laying down. Today we practice the leg stretches in the strap after some lovely hip opening. From there we continue to find core strength while still and then while moving. This strengthen allows us to move deeper as we work into standing poses. In standing we work on moving the spine in all directions, this extra attention just may open up more room to twist in revolved triangle and revolved half moon pose. We end with the option to try camels pose, ustrasana. This class was filmed live November 1, 2021.

Bolster Warm Up for Upward Dog

For this class you will need a bolster, blocks and possibly a blanket.

We start out with a slow warm up using the bolster and finding more space to breath into in the back body in twists. We take this spaciousness into the standing poses and try to maintain smooth and full breathing in these strengthening poses. More twists help to warm up the spine for backbends. We try out salabasana on the bolster and then upward facing dog pose with the support of the bolster at the top thighs. This class was filmed live August 28, 2021.

Moving Your Spine in All Directions

In this class we work on moving in all different directions and maybe get into so places the sometimes get ignored. This class will leave you stretched out and possibly breathing with more ease.

You will need one long band, blocks and some wall space. Its helpful to set the narrow end of your mat up at the wall for the practice.

Move Your Hips and Spine

For this class you will need blocks and optional blanket for padding.

We work on strong and mobile hips in the warm up. Stable hips gives us a great base for the spine to rotate on. We also continue to check in with our breathing as a way to create more body awareness in the poses, can you still feel your breath down the length of your spine in the twists? We work up to revolved triangle in the standing poses. This class was filmed live July 20, 2021.

Twisting and Circular Movements of the Spine

For this class you will need a blanket at a pillow and optional long blanket rolled up like a big rope. You will also want yoga blocks or a chair for the standing poses.

We start slow and steady with a floor warm up, rolling up in spinal flexion to lengthen the spine before working on twisting. From there we work on more spinal work from standing. Then we work on the standing poses, see how it feels to twist after these warm ups. This class was filmed live July 19, 2021.

Breathing into Twists

For this class you will need a blanket and yoga blocks.

We start off warming up the spine and dropping into awareness of our breathing in childs pose and cat cow movements of the spine. Then we do deeper longer twists while laying down. How do these twists influence how you breath when you try downward dog again? From there we continue out awareness of breathing in the standing poses. This class was filmed live July 24, 2021.

Rolling Around Prep for Deep Standing Poses

For this class clear out a little space for rolling around in the warm up. You may want a yoga strap and some yoga blocks.

In this organic wiggling warm up we slowly ease the hips into mobility and explore familiar shapes while laying down and enjoying the support of the floor. It feels great. From there we save time for some lovely standing poses, see how your hips feel! This class was filmed live June 8, 2021.

Get Twisted

Let's roll around and stretch out. This sequence feels so good. You will need a blanket as a pillow and some yoga blocks. We rock and roll in the beginning so pad up your mat if you need it. More Twisting

In this class you will need a blanket and yoga blocks.

We start off reclining is a lovely warm up to balance out the body, these first moves are great back care poses. From there we progress to strengthening and balancing the hips. This work continues in adductor side planks. In the standing poses we work on dynamic twisting to help open up more rotation in the thoracic spine. By the end of class revolved triangle just might feel more accessible. This class was filmed live April 27, 2021.

Quieting the Hip Flexors, Waking up the Glutes (and Serratus!)

For this class you will need a blanket or pillow for padding, yoga blocks and some wall space. You will also need a foam roller or two blankets rolled up in the shape of a foam roller to start with. I had so tech issues during this recording so please excuse the blurry video.

To generalize we are pretty hip flexor dominant because of posture and lots of sitting. In this class we work to elongate the spine and reverse this hip flexor dominance. Once out of this patterning we can stand more upright and ask our front and back bodies to work in balance with each other. Some fun bridge variations target the glute and unique plank pose moves to wake the back body at the shoulders, hello serratus anterior. We leave time to work on handstand and back bending for a well balanced class. This class was filmed live April 12, 2021.

Yoga with Blocks and Wall Space

In this class you will need some wall space, ideally for the length of your mat, two blocks, and a blanket.

In this practice we use the block for feedback in new ways. By keeping the block pinned at the wall it helps encourage stability in our bodies and deepen focus where we want it. In some ways this work can feel harder because we are not able to compensate with other body parts, and that is what makes it so great. It makes is clear just how much rotation you have available in your ribcage for example. We come back a few different times to use the help of the wall in this practice and the information from this work just might come into your other standing poses. Resistance Bands: Revolved Triangle Pose and Bow Pose

For this class you will need one long band, two yoga blocks, and a blanket or two.

In this class we utilize the assist of the resistance bands in three different ways, adding awareness to different parts of the body, adding strengthening, and adding support in getting into twists. We add in some neck work to become more aware of where our head is in space and to cirle back to this in the standing poses. We build up to revolved triangle pose as well as work towards bow pose and other backbends. This class was filmed live March 22, 2021.
