Twisting and Backbends Part 3

For this class you will need wall space, blocks and a blanket.

We start out laying down to warm up and then move to the wall for more warm ups. We practice Upward dog and shoulder work at the wall to prepare doing more backbends our our mats. We work into revolved triangle pose and then end in supported bridge pose. This class was filmed live July 16, 2022.

Twisting and Backbends Part 2

For this class you will need blocks, a strap, a blanket and some wall space.

We start out laying down for our warm up including leg stretches with the strap. From there we work on cat cows and variations for the spine. Grab a chair and so these at the wall if you don't kneel. We then use the wall for shoulder work and stretching the front thighs. Upper back strength is highlighted with belly down work and then we flow through poses to put it all together including revolved triangle pose. This class was filmed live July 12, 2022.

Twisting and Backbends Part 1

For this class you need blocks, a blanket, and wall space.

We start with reclining warm ups, cat cow variations for spinal work and then move to the wall for extra shoulder warm ups. We take a few rounds of thigh stretches with the option of kneeling. We then move through a flow to put it all together. This class was filmed live July 11, 2022.

A Twisting Practice

For this class you will need wall space, blocks and a bolster.

We start off with legs up the wall and then hip stretches with the support of the wall. From there we progress to standing and taking more warm ups at the wall. The sturdy support of the wall can help us to feel grounded and more open as we move. From there we work into twists and end with Warrior 3, Half Moon and Revolved Half Moon poses. Working at the Wall

For this class bring the narrow end of your mat to the wall and have blocks and a blanket.

We start off standing for a change of pace and do some warm ups at the wall. The wall can offer some lovely support and a grounding feeling to the warm ups. We work on two hip glide moves to set the femur back into the socket and then work on deep breathing and hip external rotation while laying down. We continue to use that wall in support for lunges and our standing poses and work up to half moon and revolved half moon. And then we try out a few back bends. Pigeon Pose Work Part 2

For this class you will need blocks, a blanket, a strap and a bolster.

We start off with legs up the wall and our leg stretches at the wall. From there we continue to wam up the body while lying down. Then we work towards standing warm ups for the hips and shoulders. We work on twisting in the standing poses and then try out deeper hip work in pigeon pose over the bolster. This class was filmed live March 29, 2022.

Pigeon Pose Variations Part 1

For this class you will need a strap, bolster, blankets, and blocks.

We start out laying down and emphasis the breathing during the warm up. This can help create more space in the inner body and aid in ease of movement. From there we continue to work into the shoulders and rest of the body as well in standing. We flow through standing poses to get deeper into twists and build strength in the body. At then of class we try out an upright version of pigeon pose with the option of an over hand reach for the back foot with the aid of a strap. This class was filmed live March 28, 2022.

Twisting into Spring

For this class you will need blocks and a blanket.

We start out with an active warm up laying down. Practice rolling from your back to your front in these open chain supta padangustasana poses. From there we continue our warm up in the shoulders while standing. Try out swimmer hovers from different positions and see how gravity can change they way moves feel. We move into deeper twists practcing revolved triangle and then work into upward dog and bow pose. This class was filmed live March 21, 2022.

Goddess Flow for Backbending

In this class you will need a strap, two blankets, and blocks. Try out this novel reclining warm up. We use the strap for leg stretches and then roll into side lying for Anantasana pose. From there we continue to warm up the feet, ankles, knees and hips while standing. This all helps us to access the goddess flow for hip opening and strengthening. All of this mobility work aids in our backbends. See how purvotonasana can give you an extra boost in the belly down backbends! This class was filmed live December 11, 2021.

Bolster Work for Backbends

For this class you will need a bolster or pillow and blanket, as well as blocks.

We start out slow, easing into breathing side lying over the bolster. From there we worked on opening up in all the directions, encouraging the spine to move in lots of ways in preparation for moving into backbends. In the standing poses we practice twists to continue to work with the spine. Then we use the bolster to aid in the belly down backbends. This class was filmed live December 8, 2021.

Hip To Backbends

For this class we start out with hip glides at the wall, use a block to prop your feet up on. In class we will also use a bolster, blanket/sliders and blocks. Hip glides get our hips moving and then in the reclining sequence we continue to balance the hips on all sides. Then from kneeling we work to strengthen the adductors. This strength carries into the backbends, supporting a long spine with support from within. This class was filmed live December 6, 2021.

Restoring Neutral Spinal Curves in Preparing for Hanumanasana

For this class we start out at the wall, you will need a small wash cloth and a yoga block near by. From there we use blocks, blankets and a bolster throughout class.

In this class we use the washcloth as a spacer to support the neutral lumbar curve. Maintaining neutral curves allows for a long clear channel for your breathing. With this strong connection to breath while relaxing we then take this awareness on with us as we work in more active poses. This class will sneak you right into your splits pose. Chair Flow

For this class you will need a sturdy chair, blocks and possibly a blanket. In this class we warm up seated in the chair. From there we stand and take our rotating airplane moves for hip mobility. We work asymmetrically to find more movement in the thoracic spine. From there we try some poses linked together from the chair. You don't have to need the modification to enjoy the support! The chair offers wonderful feedback and allows us to be aware of different elements in familiar poses. This class was filmed live November 22, 2021

Fun Flow from Tahoe

For this class you will need a yoga block and some wall space. We start off laying down for our warm up and give special attention to our hamstrings. From there we continue to warm up at the wall. Then we take these moves into our standing pose flow. This class was filmed live November 13, 2021.

Twisting into Backbends

For this class you will need blocks and a blanket and a strap. We start off slow, warming up laying down. Today we practice the leg stretches in the strap after some lovely hip opening. From there we continue to find core strength while still and then while moving. This strengthen allows us to move deeper as we work into standing poses. In standing we work on moving the spine in all directions, this extra attention just may open up more room to twist in revolved triangle and revolved half moon pose. We end with the option to try camels pose, ustrasana. This class was filmed live November 1, 2021.

Pigeon Pose Variations

For this class it is helpful to have a bolster or a couple of blankets folded up. You will also want blocks and a strap with a buckle.

We continue our hip strengthening work in this class. This helps prepare the hips well for our active pigeon pose variations. In these we work on back bending, core strength, stretching the back thigh, and extending the arms up and over head. This full body version of the pose is a wonderful active version of what otherwise is often a passive stretch. This class was filmed live Sept 11, 2021.

Bolster Warm Up for Upward Dog

For this class you will need a bolster, blocks and possibly a blanket.

We start out with a slow warm up using the bolster and finding more space to breath into in the back body in twists. We take this spaciousness into the standing poses and try to maintain smooth and full breathing in these strengthening poses. More twists help to warm up the spine for backbends. We try out salabasana on the bolster and then upward facing dog pose with the support of the bolster at the top thighs. This class was filmed live August 28, 2021.

Bolster Warm Ups for Purvottanasa

For this class you will need a bolster. You could also use a long foam roller for much of the class or blankets rolled together. You will also need blocks for the standing poses.

In this class we start out actively moving the spine using the bolster to isolate specific spots. From there we continue to warm up the whole body laying down. The heft of the bolster offers some interesting feed back in twists and wrist and shoulder work. From there we build strength in the standing poses and belly down backbends. We build up to reverse table top pose and the take time to unwind and relax. This class was filmed live August 24, 2021.

Yoga with a Bolster

For this class you will need a bolster. If you dont have one you can roll up to yoga blankets together and many use masking tape to tape them together for the practice. You will also need yoga blocks and a strap.

For this practice we really slow down and focus on the breathing. The bolster offers lots of feedback all through out the practice. We start with a long reclining warm up, it can feel luxurious spending this extra time laying down and slowly unravel and open up into bigger stretches. From there we warm up the shoulders and wake up the legs in standing poses. We take a series of variations on belly down backbends leading to dhanurasana. This class was filmed live August 23, 2021.

Moving Your Spine in All Directions

In this class we work on moving in all different directions and maybe get into so places the sometimes get ignored. This class will leave you stretched out and possibly breathing with more ease.

You will need one long band, blocks and some wall space. Its helpful to set the narrow end of your mat up at the wall for the practice.
