For this class you need a resistance band, a washcloth, a large wall space blocks and a blanket. This recording has a few choppy moments where I was interrupted at home. We start out working on breathing and then full external and internal range of motion in the shoulders. From there we continue to warm up the shoulders in a circular motion at the wall. Static holds in all different angles of the shoulder can be a very therapeutic way of working with joints. From there we start to put these ranges of motion into action in salabasana, revers tabletop and lastly in side plank at the end of class. This class was filmed Oct 18, 2021.
Springing into Handstand and the Shoulders to Hold You
For this class you will need resistance bands, blocks and a blanket, and a chair.
In the reclining warm up we wake up the body and prepare to work up to more challenging moves in the standing poses. We use the resistance bands to aid in should strengthening and mobility. Then find your strong legs and hips. From there you might find you can just hop right up into handstand! This class was filmed live September 25, 2021.
Bolster Warm Ups for Purvottanasa
For this class you will need a bolster. You could also use a long foam roller for much of the class or blankets rolled together. You will also need blocks for the standing poses.
In this class we start out actively moving the spine using the bolster to isolate specific spots. From there we continue to warm up the whole body laying down. The heft of the bolster offers some interesting feed back in twists and wrist and shoulder work. From there we build strength in the standing poses and belly down backbends. We build up to reverse table top pose and the take time to unwind and relax. This class was filmed live August 24, 2021.
Wrists, Shoulders, Hamstrings, and Inversions
For this class you will need a long blanket, a mini loop band and yoga blocks, and a spot at the wall. We start out warming up our wrist and hand grip strength while stretching the legs. The chest opener helps to start working on shoulder mobility. From there we do core work support a strong foundation going forward. We use the mini loop band for traction on the wrist, this can open up new space in the wrist joint and more easy in wrist extension (needed in handstand). We work on sliding moves to light up the hamstrings and glutes. And then put it together with inversions. This class was filmed live August 9, 2021.
Thoracic Mobility Class
For this class you will need some wall space, blanket for padding and yoga blocks possibly for lunges.
In this class we focus on the spine, warming up in all directions and then spending extra time on rotation. We also work on shoulder strength and mobility to support us well in side plank rotations, adductor strength for support in the lunges. All the rotation work in different orientations to gravity just might help you get the most of out of your twists in the lunges and wide legged forward fold. New Ways to Build Core Strength and Body Awareness
In this class we continue our look into anti-rotation work in a new way to build core strength, body awareness and integration. This strength and stability will help all throughout class.
You will need a slider blanket or paper plate/plastic bag and yoga blocks. This class was filmed live July 31, 2021.
Anti-Rotation Work with a Strong Footing
For this class you will need a long band with a loop in it, a door knob and blanket or paper plate/plastic bag for sliding. Being able to control when and what is moving is important.
In this class we work on not rotating even when under tension from the resistance band. You might notice one side is easier than the other, or that this is surprisingly challenging. Anti-rotation work helps improve balance, stability, core strength and awareness. We use this skills throughout class in balancing poses and when we intentionally do rotate in standing poses. Stability with Bands
For this class you will need your mini loop band and one long band with loops tied in the ends. Its also helpful to have a blanket for padding and blocks.
We use the bands to warm up our shoulders, hips and feet. This foundational work helps us with all the standing poses. Stability created under tension can make all the difference, give Warrior III a try with the help of bands. From there we work on more balancing poses without the bands and see how the warm up helps you balance! This class was filmed July 12, 2021
Skandasana Side Lunge Class
For this class you will need a resistance band, blanket for padding and blocks.
Warm up your shoulders in this reclining resistance band sequence. From there we strengthen the anterior abdominal wall and stretch out the hip flexors from kneeling. We work towards deeper squats and a slide lunging squat known in yoga as skandasana. This class was filmed live July 10, 2021 with the help of my friend Flora.
Peeling Open Into Twists
For this class you will need pillow or blanket and blocks are helpful.
We start off decompressing the spine in cat cows to make more space in the spine to work on twists. We use the arms to assist getting deeper into twists and then continue this work in the standing poses. This class was filmed live July 3, 2021.
Bird of Paradise Fun
For this class you will need some yoga blocks, blanket for padding, a strap and some wall space.
We start out slow and steady to check in with our breathing. From there we warm up the hips and shoulders. Try out some new warm ups with the support of the wall. For this class we are trying to balance front and back body. Many of us could use more strength in the front abdominal wall to help keep the back body long getting us out of any compression there. We build up to bird of paradise pose in these sequence, try out open chair verse closed chain to see just how much your arms are helping you! This class was filmed live June 21, 2021.
Plank Pose Fun
Try out some different takes on plank and side plank in this class. You will need one firm block, one soft block if possible and a blanket for padding. You also might want to put your hands on the wall of furniture to help with balance for part of the class.
We start out with a relaxing reclining warm up and then work towards twisting, and shoulder, hip and core strength, all needed for the fun plank variations. From there we try out a deep lunging twist with optional crossed arm. This class was filmed live June 26, 2021.
Weighted Breathing for a Wide Back Body
In this class we will again use a hand weight to warm up and encourage more breathing in the back body. You will also need wall space, yoga blocks and a blanket.
After the breathing warm up we throughly explore out hips and strengthen from all directions. In standing we give some extra love to ankles and knees. In our. flow sequence we come back again and again to breathing, reaching the hands down into the blocks to broaden the back body and find a fullness to the breath. Anterior and Posterior Body Working in Balance
For this class you will need one weight you can lift over head, wall space, a blanket and blocks.
We start off with breath work at the wall using your weight, a block between your knees and optional blanket under your head. Using a weight in this move actually makes it easier to find breathing in the back body. We continue to come back to this awareness in different shapes and orientations to gravity throughout the practice. We use a block for some fun and engaging core work to find stability in the anterior abdominal wall (whew!). We use all this stability to support us in challenging balance work; heal lifts from utkatasna and in short lunges. Hello calves, hamstrings and glutes! We save time to handstand work and then a long rest. This class was filmed live May 24, 2021.
Wrist Care Class for Side Plank Pose
For this class you will need a weight you can lift over head easily or a large water bottle or something you can hold easily that has some weight to it. You will also need a blanket and yoga blocks and a spot as the wall.
In this class we slow down and give our wrists extra attention. As you take the class see if the warm ups help plank pose feel better. In caring for our wrists we also stretch the neck and chest muscles. We work towards side plank poses. This class was filmed live May 22, 2021.
Easing into Strength
Nothing like a fluid warm up to work gently and kindly into strength and vitality. This is a great class if you are feeling a little tired or lethargic!
You will need a yoga blocks, a blanket and possibly a chair. We start out with a log chest opener and then take some flowing warm ups to ease our bodies into more movement and strength. From there we connect to our core with spinal balance. While standing we work on neck stability with block work and then shoulder mobility from there. Moving through some standing poses to then put all the pieces together. This class was filmed live May 18, 2021
Full Body Tune Up
For this class we will start side lying, have a pillow or a blanket as a pillow.
You will also need a chair and yoga blocks for class. While side lying we spend some time taking deeper breaths, how often through out your day do you really breath fully in and out? We then warm up the hips and shoulders. After, we sit up and work on ankle mobility in a new way, remember don't push through cramping. We try out hip glides with the use of a chair and gravity and then work on our balance in standing poses. At the end of class we take a long rest in legs up the wall. Hip Glides and Yoga Flows
For this class we start at the wall. You will need one or two blankets or a pillow, and two yoga blocks.
We start off this class with breathing work to reset the diaphragm and the hip glides to get the hips set up for the rest of class. We work on some new hip moves to get the femur to sit deeper back in the hip joint. This helps activate the glutes. We then try some unique entries into the spading poses to get a little deeper into the hip work. Give handstand a try at the wall and enjoy some time upside down. We then take a long rest to really relax and prepare for savasana. This class was filmed live May 10, 2021.
Breathing to Bridge Pose
For this class set the short end of your mat at the wall, have a blanket and yoga blocks and a stretchy band or yoga strap for the beginning of class.
In this class we use our awareness of our breathing as a touchstone. We work on over head range of motion working actively with latisimus dorsi, the tricepts, and the front chest muscles. We also work further with hip flexors, taking it up a notch at the wall. This all aids in handstand work. After some standing poses we finish with active backbends and a long held supported bridge with variations. This class was filmed live April 26, 2021.
Tuesday Backbends
For this class you will need wall space, a chair without arms, yoga blocks, a blanket and a bolster.
This class starts off standing working on shoulder mobility and expanding breathing. From here we lengthen the hip flexors and create balance strengthening the back of the hip. All of this aides in belly down backbends and then wheel pose at the end of class. This class was filmed live April 19, 2021.
